Scope and Contents

This collection primarily contains notes and scripts collected, annotated, and written by Cornelius Raynor in his capacity as a member of the Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation. The collection contains clippings about historic Athens buildings, other research materials, and scripts for speaking about these historic buildings during walking tours. The folder of clippings offers an extensive selection of articles from the Athens Banner-Herald, the Athens Observer, Athens Magazine, and other publications about Athens history, especially historic buildings.

Conditions Governing Access

This collection has no restrictions. This collection is open to the public. Library policy on photography and photocopying will apply. Advance notice may be required. Apply in the Heritage Room for access. The exception is the Order of the Eastern Star collection, the directories included in which list the personal addresses and phone numbers of members. These directories are not available to the public.

Biographical / Historical

A veteran of the Second World War who hailed from New York state, Cornelius “Cory” Raynor lived in Bogart from 1983 to 2006. During those years, Raynor served as volunteer coordinator for the University of Georgia State Botanical Garden of Georgia and the Georgia Museum of Art. He was affiliated with the Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation, assisting in some capacity with tours of historic homes organized by the Foundation and efforts to attain historic designation for the Cobbham neighborhood. He died September 21, 2012 in Portland, Oregon.
