Athens music commercial sound recordings
Scope and Contents
This collection contains commercially-released recordings, as compared to archival and private recordings, of Athens-based, or otherwise Athens-related, musicians. The initial selection of items is quite random, but the collection is intended to expand, serving as a repository for local musicians who can donate extra copies of their work to ensure their preservation. The Cindy Wilson albums are autographed by the artist and were donated by Keith Bennett.

Conditions Governing Use
This collection has no restrictions. This collection is open to the public. Library policy on photography and photocopying will apply. Advance notice may be required. Apply in the Heritage Room for access.
Biographical / Historical
Given that Compact Discs and, to a lesser extent, cassettes comprise this collection, the musicians represented most likely worked from the 1990s onward. The low cost of C. D. production, especially in the case of artist-made C. D.-R. releases, allowed for a proliferation of commercial sound recordings by local artists regardless of those artists’ connections with regional or national record labels and distribution networks.
