Chatham Murray collection
Scope and Contents
The collection is comprised largely of Murray’s extensive collection of photographs, both professional and personal. These detail her life, her accomplishments, and a great deal of her artwork. The digital files, almost all of which are JPEG files, have been preserved as they were found on C.D.-R. and other formats. The names of the files and the folders in which they are held have not been changed.

Biographical / Historical
Chatham Murray, born October 23, 1942, was an artist, activist, and avid proponent of human-scale Athens, Georgia. She began her studies in painting in high school, leaving for New York to continue her education at the Art Students League before returning to Athens, where she completed a Master of Fine Arts degree under Lamar Dodd. Her notable contributions to Athens include numerous sign paintings that still dot the landscape. As an activist and politically-committed individual, she was a lifelong supporter of feminism and equal rights, serving as a delegate at the 1972 Democratic National Convention. Murray passed away August 3, 2020.
