Clarke Central athletics collection

Nearly all of the materials pertain to football, with a majority being programs that were sold at games held at Death Valley, Clarke Central’s football stadium, later renamed Billy Henderson Stadium.

The programs and media guides list the names of athletes and coaches, often matched with photographs of them, and at times include biographical information. Many of programs and guides also include summaries of the previous season or retrospective accounts of past seasons. Some of them feature photographs and information about other Clarke Central athletic teams and about the marching band. They also include advertisements from a wide variety of local businesses, of potential use to those studying Athens history.

Some of the brochures pertain to camps run by the Champions Foundation, founded by Billy Henderson after his retirement. The organizations represented in the non-Clarke Central folder are Cedar Shoals High School, Madison County High School, and the Athens Y Camp for Boys in Tallulah Falls, Georgia. In addition, one folder includes programs for Athens Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremonies.
