Additional Description

Overview

Records of the Athens Regional Library System, starting with the formation of the original library and its growth into a system with eleven branches serving Clarke, Franklin, Madison, Oconee, and Oglethorpe counties.

Arrangement

The records are broken into six series for easier management and access - annual reports, board minutes, director's correspondence, organizational records, photographs, and scrapbooks. Most series are arranged chronologically, but some are arranged thematically.

Accruals

Records are transferred to the Heritage Room based on the ARLS retention policy.

Existence and Location of Copies

Digital copies of board minutes can be found on the Internet Archive.

Physical Description

Mostly good but includes fragile scrapbooks, brittle papers, and faded photographs. Scrapbooks and many photographs have been scanned and are available through the Digital Library of Georgia.
