The collection contains personal and professional photographs, including some negatives, of May Erwin Talmadge's family, friends, and professional associates. A scrapbook holds personal photographs and newspaper articles on friends. The correspondence consists mainly of greeting cards and postcards.

Biographical / Historical
Born February 26, 1885, in Tennessee, May Erwin married Julius Young Talmadge in 1905. She served as the national president of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Talmadge also was a member of the Daughters of the Barons of Runnemede, the Order of the Crown, the Order of the First Crusade, the Daughters of American Colonists, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. The couple had one son, Dr. Harry Talmadge. After Julius died in 1940, May was appointed to the Athens Board of Education and the State Board of Education. She managed her late husband's business interests and farms. She died in 1973.
