Scope and Contents

Eleven scrapbooks detailing the events and accomplishments of the members of the Gamma Chapter of Psi State, Delta Kappa Gamma International, from its founding in 1939 through 1994. The scrapbooks include official publications, photographs, and clippings.

Biographical / Historical

The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International was founded on May 11, 1929 by Annie Webb Blanton, a professor at the University of Texas at Austin and former state superintendent of education. The organization was intended to united women educators in efforts to enhance professionalization, recognize women’s work in the field of education, and provide scholarships. The Athens chapter was founded on December 10, 1939. Margaret Blair, one of the founders of Psi State, organized the chapter and served as its first president.
