Biographical / Historical
Dr. Hubert McAlexander was born in Holly Springs, Mississippi in 1939. He attended the University of Mississippi, receiving his Bachelor of Arts in 1961 and his Master of Arts in 1966. His doctorate degree was completed at the University of Wisconsin in 1973. After teaching one year at Texas A & M, he and his wife Patricia joined the University of Georgia faculty in 1974. He retired from a distinguished teaching career at UGA in 2010.
Dr. McAlexander is a noted southern literature expert. His professional publications have included numerous journal articles, biographies of Sherwood Bonner and Peter Taylor, and two additional books on Peter Taylor.
Dr. McAlexander is a member of the Athens Historical Society, researching family histories and Athens locations. His work has helped with local history publications and placing historical markers.
