Twenty-three photographs spanning nearly a century; two folders of correspondence, often with envelopes and documents besides the letters, in that case often pertaining to genealogical research (one of the folders consists entirely of correspondence between Keaster and Denise Murphy); and a folder of documents relating to genealogical research.

This collection has no restrictions. This collection is open to the public. Library policy on photography and photocopying will apply. Advance notice may be required. Apply in the Heritage Room for access. The exception is the Order of the Eastern Star collection, the directories included in which list the personal addresses and phone numbers of members. These directories are not available to the public.
Biographical / Historical
Effie Lou Keaster was born in 1911 and died in 2004. She was a published poet and Associate Professor of Health and Physical Education at the University of Georgia. Later in life she devoted much time to studying her family’s history and helped others in their genealogical research.

This collection originally contained genealogy records pertaining to the Bean/Beene families in addition to the miscellaneous reserach documents contained in the Genealogical Research folder. While any records originally attached to particular letters have remained in this collection, the other Bean/Beene records were filled in the Heritage Room Surname Files.
