This collection has no restrictions. This collection is open to the public. Library policy on photography and photocopying will apply. Advance notice may be required. Apply in the Heritage Room for access. The exception is the Order of the Eastern Star collection, the directories included in which list the personal addresses and phone numbers of members. These directories are not available to the public.

Biographical / Historical

Opened in Athens in 1829, the Georgia Factory, the first textile factory in Athens, was situated on the North Oconee River. The village of Whitehall grew up around the mill after John White took over management of the mill in 1837. Later, his son John Richards White managed the operation.
