Scope and Contents
One of the six photographs is a duplicate. The location of the banquet is unknown but one of the photographs shows what appears to be a large entrance room of a building that could potentially be identified. Microphones bearing the call numbers WGAU and WRFC are visible in three of the five shots.

Apply in the Heritage Room for access. The exception is the Order of the Eastern Star collection, the directories included in which list the personal addresses and phone numbers of members. These directories are not available to the public.
Biographical / Historical
Compton O. "Fat" Baker was a lawyer and elected state representative. He was instrumental in founding the Boys & Girls Club of Athens, Georgia. Born August 28, 1910, Baker attended the University of Georgia for his undergraduate and law degrees. During his stint in the government, a special chair was constructed for him since he kept breaking the regular chairs. He ran for the Democratic nomination for governor in 1950 against Herman Talmadge. He died July 23, 1961, and is buried in Jeffersonville, Georgia.
