Old Grove School collection, 1878-1956
Scope and Contents
This collection includes two Teacher's Pocket Record notebooks published by A.S. Barnes and Company, both used for what appear to be class attendance records; a notebook entitled Day Book (no publisher information), marked with what appears to be financial records, dated 1884-1893; a photograph of Julia Moss; notes in preparation of the Closing Exercises of the Grove School, June 12, 1885, as well as the program for the event and a clipping of a newspaper article about it; a program for the Old Grove School Party, May 25, 1934, and correspondence pertaining to that event; additional correspondence about the history of the school; and a text addressed to "fellow alumnae and alumni of the Old Grove School," written by William L. Moss.

This collection has no restrictions. This collection is open to the public. Library policy on photography and photocopying will apply. Advance notice may be required. Apply in the Heritage Room for access. The exception is the Order of the Eastern Star collection, the directories included in which list the personal addresses and phone numbers of members. These directories are not available to the public.
Biographical / Historical
Julia Pope Moss ran the Grove School in the back of her family's home, Moss Side, in Cobbham. Children of the Moss and other neighborhood families attended. It was established by 1878 at the latest and was open until at least 1893.
