Included are three yearbooks of the Extension Building Garden Club; and a brochure and list of attendees for a 1952 tour led by the Ladies’ Garden Club; among other items. A copy of an informational booklet about the Ladies' Garden Club is from the sixth edition of the publication, 1976 (the original publication date is not provided); the newspaper clippings, photographs, and other items in the publication span the years, 1891-1966.

This collection has no restrictions. This collection is open to the public. Library policy on photography and photocopying will apply. Advance notice may be required. Apply in the Heritage Room for access. The exception is the Order of the Eastern Star collection, the directories included in which list the personal addresses and phone numbers of members. These directories are not available to the public.
Biographical / Historical
Founded in 1891, the Ladies’ Garden Club billed itself as nation’s first garden club. The Garden Club of Georgia, founded in 1928 in Atlanta, led efforts to construct a memorial to the twelve original members of the Athens club. It would become the Founders Memorial Garden, completed in 1946.
