Biographical / Historical
Founded in 1966 at the Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School, and based since 1977 at Rabun County High School, Foxfire magazine featured articles written by students on the general topic of Appalachian culture. The magazine formed part of a larger effort to establish experiential education by its founder, Eliot Wigginton. The first of twelve anthologies containing pieces originally published in the magazine accompanied by new material was published in 1972. The commercial success of the book led students to establish the Foxfire Fund, a non-profit educational and cultural foundation, as well as the Foxfire Museum and Heritage Center in Mountain City, Georgia.
