Biographical / Historical

Created in 1977, the Downtown Development Authority has engaged in various efforts to revitalize downtown, at the time considered, like many urban central business districts, to be threatened by the rise of suburban shopping malls, high crime rates, and aging, limited infrastructure. The Authority is designated to be the liaison between businesses located downtown and the Athens-Clarke County government.
