Biographical / Historical

Completed in 1844, the Rock House, as it is known, was owned by Governor Wilson Lumpkin and transferred to the University in 1907. Lumpkin had the stone house built to resemble the old millhouse at Cedar Shoals, an early building in the city of Athens. The house stood out amid the Greek Revival architecture of Athens and was made from stone collected at the site itself.
