 Series — Box: 8, Folder: 70

Scope and Contents

Perhaps the most significant document in the collection is a report prepared by the Design Quality Panel, documenting what was apparently the panel’s fourth meeting, October 24-25, 1989. Funded by a donation to the Athens city government, the Southern Regional Office of the National Trust for Historic Preservation organized the panel. Also of note is a proposed by the A. C. H. Biographical / Historical

During the years represented by this random assortment of materials , the local community found itself embroiled in an extensive discussion about preserving the old firehouse and the design of the new convention center. Debates over these issues continued for several more years. Though containing only a smattering of materials, the origins of the materials are diverse, including the Classic Center Authority, the Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation (A. C. H. F.), and the Athens Downtown Council.
